Consolidated Local Government Tourism Intervention, Support and Capacitation Programme The National Tourism Sector Strategy (NTSS) of South Africa recognises Local Government as a key partner/stakeholder in growing tourism and achieving its outcomes. There is also an acknowledgement that in its current form, Local Government is far from being able to carry the required functions related to tourism development and management. It is in light of the above realities and capacity limitations at the Local Government sphere that a need arose to develop a Local Government Tourism Development and Growth Support Programme, led by the National Department of Tourism (NDT), with support from other partners.

Engagement in Fragile and Conflict-Affected Situations: Pilot Fragility Assessment of an Informal Urban Settlement in Kiribati The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has piloted fragility assessments in selected urban settlements in the Pacific using a community-based approach and focusing on the impact of fragility on the delivery of basic services. The fragility assessment of South Tarawa in Kiribati explores patterns of fragility related to urban development including delivery of critical urban services with focus on water and sanitation services. Factories recovered by workers in Argentina Since the year 2000 the workers in Argentina decided to not leave the factories closed for bankruptcy or because abandoned by their owners, organizing themselves in Cooperatives to retrieve the production. Today 20.000 employees manage more than 300 recovered factories throughout the country, and they are organized into the National Movement of the Recovered Factories (N.M.R.F.). In 2011, thanks to these impacting results of the Movement, the Government of Argentina approved the Reform of the Bankruptcy Law. This Reform facilitates the revitalisation processes of the factories undertaken by the workers and opens the space to large-scale application

Tracking development: Katine, Uganda-It starts with a village The Katine project: In October 2007, the Guardian newspaper began tracking a development project implemented by Amref in Katine, north-east Uganda. The full-time coverage of the project has now ended, but The Guardian will be returning to the sub-county over the next few years to monitor how the community fares after Amref withdraws.
